From a data governance and security perspective, this is an issue in my book. Microsoft refuse to acknowledge that this is an issue, I’ve tried many times. It started with SharePoint 2013 on premise, and was just compounded by Office 365 groups. I stand by my viewpoint that this is a fundamental flaw in the permissions model. So you need to change the item level permission instead. However, with Office 365 group connected sites, you can’t. In stand-alone SharePoint, you could have just changed the permission level for the group to contribute with no issues. And this is the issue – edit rights have the Manage Lists permission level added to it. By default, all people added as members in Teams or SharePoint, get added to a SharePoint Members Group which has edit rights on it. Let’s start with the issue with edit rights. It’s a huge undertaking getting your head around it all. There are 13 admin centres in Office 365, 45 administrator levels 4 different SharePoint templates, 4 additional permission levels 3 different Teams templates then add Office 365 groups into the mix. Click OK and that’s it! The link has now been saved.Permissions in the modern SharePoint / Teams cloud continue being a huge headache in most people’s lives. Then I’ll put the URL on Address Box and the text to display. Back in the quick launch pane, I’ll click on add a link. Next, I’ll right click on it and press copy. Let me go ahead and click on open a new tab so I have the link to it. You can add the departments link in the quick launch pane so it appears all the time and not just currently when it’s a recently created list. For example, if I want to delete a X link, it is possible. It also gives you the capability to delete any of these. So, if you are a site owner, you have the capability to click on the edit links here. Let me show you how you can edit these links. It is a good practice to keep only the relevant links in the quick launch page. A site owner has a responsibility to manage this links. Now these same links are presented no matter which page a user navigates to. The quick launch pane appears on the left of the page. Removing and renaming menu items are simple and intuitive. The drag and drop capability also allows you to rearrange the menu links in a desired order. You can add a new link to the menu by dragging an app from Site Contents or by copy-pasting a URL in the field below the name field in the dialogue box.If you don’t have permission to edit a Site navigation, you won’t see the link named “ EDIT LINKS”. To do so, you’re required to be a Site owner or have the required permissions. To determine which Pages and Sites to have quick access to, you’ll need to modify this menu. It is the list of links located to the left side of your SharePoint Site interface.īy default, the menu displays links to lists, libraries, and five recent items. The quick launch menu in SharePoint Server 2016 gives you quick access to Sites and Pages. It’s the list of links located to the left side of your SharePoint Site interface. What to do? Don’t worry, you can get this fixed quickly! Just follow these steps as mentioned in this blog and watch my video for additional guidance. Let’s say you’re browsing through the Sales Portal and found the quick launch menus to be different from the Sales Portal. We imagine you’re using SharePoint Intranet Portal – Department Site and you’re seeking answers to quick launch menu items.
